{"id":86136,"date":"2021-06-08T08:44:45","date_gmt":"2021-06-08T12:44:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canadianbudgetbinder.com\/?p=86136"},"modified":"2024-12-23T07:38:31","modified_gmt":"2024-12-23T07:38:31","slug":"where-can-i-find-my-happy-place","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/digitalskyweb.co\/canadianbudgetbinder.com\/2021\/06\/08\/where-can-i-find-my-happy-place\/","title":{"rendered":"Where Can I Find My Happy Place?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Finding your happy place in life <\/strong>has more to do with priorities rather than <strong>financial success<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Working from home for nearly two years now has allowed me much needed time to work on myself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I&#8217;m the type of person who struggles to shut his brain off. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By this I mean, I often find that I&#8217;m thinking five steps ahead. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Can you relate? <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you do, I hope you enjoy what it means to find your happy place as I dive into deep waters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I can be having a bath which is suggestive of a relaxed meditative form of time alone behind closed doors and still brainstorming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When I started this blog I did so as a hobby which was great however now it&#8217;s turned into a business. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s said that if you do something you love without being paid you&#8217;ll be highly motivated. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, if you start being rewarded for it then it becomes a job and your motivation decreases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There will always be that next hurdle you need to jump to be better or better than someone else.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Makes sense doesn&#8217;t it?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Finding Your Happy Place <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Yesterday I listened to a Spotify interview between Steven Barlett and one-fifth of the group One Direction, Liam Payne.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Both of these men are massively successful but far more diverse than what we think.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Two parts of the interview that caught my attention were his relationship with money and finding a happy place. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>When you wake up every day and it&#8217;s your dream life what do you strive for?<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>What makes you happy?<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/embed\/episode\/74BDQLoH4eTc0i6T7K5a52?theme=0\" width=\"100%\" height=\"232\" frameBorder=\"0\" allowtransparency=\"true\" allow=\"encrypted-media\"><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<p>From a young age, I wanted to be financially successful and happy doing something I love and getting paid for it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That makes sense right? <\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once I sold the flat I bought a semi-detached home which set the wheels rolling towards <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/canadianbudgetbinder.com\/2019\/08\/27\/how-i-owned-a-mortgage-free-house-by-age-40\/\">mortgage freedom<\/a><\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Debt was something taboo for me as I didn&#8217;t want it apart from owing a mortgage and kept it that way. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/canadianbudgetbinder.com\/2020\/10\/27\/how-we-live-the-simple-life-in-our-40s-sept-2020-net-worth-update-1-27\/\">Living a simple life<\/a><\/strong> back then and continuing to do so today with my wife contributes to our success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Learning To Balance Work, Life and Happiness<\/h2>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"720\" height=\"616\" src=\"https:\/\/digitalskyweb.co\/canadianbudgetbinder.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Finding-My-Happy-Place-720x900-1-e1734939441169.webp\" alt=\"Learning To Balance Work, Life and Happiness\" class=\"wp-image-142094\" style=\"width:779px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/digitalskyweb.co\/canadianbudgetbinder.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Finding-My-Happy-Place-720x900-1-e1734939441169.webp 720w, https:\/\/digitalskyweb.co\/canadianbudgetbinder.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Finding-My-Happy-Place-720x900-1-e1734939441169-300x257.webp 300w, https:\/\/digitalskyweb.co\/canadianbudgetbinder.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Finding-My-Happy-Place-720x900-1-e1734939441169-491x420.webp 491w, https:\/\/digitalskyweb.co\/canadianbudgetbinder.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Finding-My-Happy-Place-720x900-1-e1734939441169-150x128.webp 150w, https:\/\/digitalskyweb.co\/canadianbudgetbinder.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Finding-My-Happy-Place-720x900-1-e1734939441169-696x595.webp 696w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><strong>Finding Your Happy Place Outdoors<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Unfortunately, there are people who are working their dream job yet haven&#8217;t found that happy place. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I bet some of you who are reading this have no idea what truly makes you happy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Often we think we do until we strip it down to the basics and forget about what everyone else is doing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That&#8217;s because we are too damn focused on rewards, outside pressures and career demands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aside from enjoying time with friends and family, it&#8217;s important to find interests that cost you nothing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That&#8217;s right, find things that are free to do that bring you joy, happiness and freedom from the cage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Remove Financial Success From The Equation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Take away personal finance from your equation and what are you left with?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Setting goals is what we are taught to do because, in the end, you&#8217;ll find that happy place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From there you move on to the next goal and so forth but when is enough is enough?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example, we know that money doesn&#8217;t necessarily make people happy however priorities we set for ourselves revolve around personal success. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I have yet to meet someone that said their dream was to be financially unsuccessful, stressed, and riddled with debt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Living A Life Without Comparison<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Life has to be about growth along the paths that you set along with learning to respect yourself.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Failing to live in the moment and enjoying life for what it&#8217;s worth can be damaging to self-acceptance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Am I good enough in the eyes of everyone around me opposed to am I in my happy place?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Money dominates daily living and as Payne states in the interview, &#8220;We&#8217;ve gone past the basic survival instinct. Making money has become the priority as we no longer hunt for food we hunt for success.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How many of you work through your lunch hour or forget to eat because there&#8217;s too much to do?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is what&#8217;s happening to society where success dominates taking care of our basic needs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Skipping meals, lack of sleep, no exercise, reduced motivation, and fake smiles eventually will wear you down. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I&#8217;ve come to understand that if you allow your brain to live in the present moment you&#8217;ll get more done.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When your mind is busy worrying or trying to compete you fail to see where you need to grow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example, I&#8217;ve had readers tell me that they wish they were debt-free. If it&#8217;s not work taking brain space it&#8217;s home life that gets my attention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Often times it&#8217;s both jumbled into lots of brain action and it wears me down. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>No amount of organizational skills can take away worrying about the next five steps of your every move. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yesterday, we were at the community garden watering our vegetables and both Mrs. CBB and I said it was relaxing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It allowed us to get out of the house together, go for a walk, talk dirty about neighbourhood houses (you all do it), and do something we love. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There&#8217;s no monetary value in this as it&#8217;s not going to make us rich. I&#8217;m not selling you anything nor am I pulling the wool over your eyes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What you read from me is what you get. No gimmicks, or miracle courses you need to pay for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As we walked closer to our house a neighbour of ours had his headphones on and was off for a jog.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jokingly we said to him that he was getting away from the family for some alone time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Truthfully, he was and doing it for all the right reasons, mental health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He told us that he runs every night to clear his mind and the music helps put him relax. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Things I Enjoy Doing Without Financial Rewards<\/h2>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"634\" height=\"488\" src=\"https:\/\/digitalskyweb.co\/canadianbudgetbinder.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Walking-through-a-majestic-forest-to-find-my-happy-place--e1734939491810.webp\" alt=\"A Majestic Walk In The Forest Is A Happy Place For Me\" class=\"wp-image-142096\" style=\"width:779px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/digitalskyweb.co\/canadianbudgetbinder.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Walking-through-a-majestic-forest-to-find-my-happy-place--e1734939491810.webp 634w, https:\/\/digitalskyweb.co\/canadianbudgetbinder.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Walking-through-a-majestic-forest-to-find-my-happy-place--e1734939491810-300x231.webp 300w, https:\/\/digitalskyweb.co\/canadianbudgetbinder.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Walking-through-a-majestic-forest-to-find-my-happy-place--e1734939491810-546x420.webp 546w, https:\/\/digitalskyweb.co\/canadianbudgetbinder.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/Walking-through-a-majestic-forest-to-find-my-happy-place--e1734939491810-150x115.webp 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 634px) 100vw, 634px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><strong>A Majestic Walk In The Forest Is A Happy Place For Me<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Finding my happy place has certainly been a journey but one that will always evolve as I change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some of the things I enjoy doing that help me relax and be part of the moment begins outside. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Often time finding your happy place aside from being with friends and family means doing it alone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This alone times allows you to work on shutting your brain off from anything not related to the moment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Going for a walk and exploring nature alone.<\/strong> <strong>(surprised me)<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Reading a book that I learn something from and finishing it.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Working out with loud music. <\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Gardening and taking care of our property.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Watching the rain with a cup of coffee.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>People watching (I&#8217;m not a creep, really)<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Going for a drive <\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Those are just a handful of things that I enjoy doing that helps me plant seeds in my happy place. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The more you do what makes you happy allows you to grow and learn about who you really are.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I worry about nothing apart from the present moment and immersing my mind into it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you wake up every day living your dream it&#8217;s important to have something to strive for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Being <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/canadianbudgetbinder.com\/2017\/04\/29\/young-living-debt-free\/\">debt-free<\/a><\/strong>, learning to live on less, and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/canadianbudgetbinder.com\/2014\/08\/28\/truth-less-stress-financial-freedom\/\">freedom from financial stress<\/a><\/strong> was my dream, remember?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Makes You Happy Often Is Not What You Thought<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>I&#8217;ve come to the conclusion that if people want to read what I have to say I&#8217;d rather them be here for the right reasons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I&#8217;m in no competition to be the <strong>best finance blogger in Canada<\/strong> nor am I relying on this business to make me rich. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Taking something that was once fun for me and turning it into a money-making machine was never the goal. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, I&#8217;ve learned that if readers come to me organically I&#8217;d rather stand on stage and get to know them as they learn about me\/us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If at the end that produces financial rewards that&#8217;s great but if not that&#8217;s fine too because the intention was never there. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sometimes it&#8217;s easy to get lost in a pile of leaves looking for a golden ticket when all along your happy place lives within.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Discussion:<\/strong> How do you shut your brain off and do things alone that bring you to your happy place?
