{"id":113745,"date":"2022-05-17T07:11:52","date_gmt":"2022-05-17T11:11:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/canadianbudgetbinder.com\/?p=113745"},"modified":"2024-12-19T12:58:26","modified_gmt":"2024-12-19T12:58:26","slug":"home-jar-fund-is-the-new-wedding-gift","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/digitalskyweb.co\/canadianbudgetbinder.com\/2022\/05\/17\/home-jar-fund-is-the-new-wedding-gift\/","title":{"rendered":"Home Jar Fund Is The New Wedding Gift"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The <strong>Home Jar Fund<\/strong> has swapped places with traditional gifts found on a <strong>wedding gift registry.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Getting married doesn&#8217;t mean buying a house with a fence, a pet and having a baby all in one shot. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The idea of buying a home before or after marriage shows independence and success. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But, Is it, though?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There&#8217;s more to being a homeowner than paying for a mortgage and property taxes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Related: <a href=\"https:\/\/canadianbudgetbinder.com\/2021\/10\/28\/long-term-care-home-expenses-to-consider\/\">Expenses To Consider When Purchasing A Home<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gone are the days of buying a toaster as a wedding gift as couples want to be homeowners first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example, a cash gift at an Italian wedding is strictly cash based on the meal, venue, and bar status. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today, I want to talk about getting married, savings, debt and why cash is a meaningful gift. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>What is a home jar fund?<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>How much should you gift for a home jar fund wedding?<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Is it appropriate that wedding invitations state the cash amount each person has to gift?<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Cash Only For A Home Fund Jar Wedding Gift<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A home jar fund means bringing cash as a wedding gift which is a relief for those who aren&#8217;t into shopping.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Both Mrs. CBB and I are awful at buying gifts for special occasions and always give cash. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other names you might come across are a <strong>house jar fund<\/strong> or a <strong>downpayment fund<\/strong> instead of practical gifts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cash-only gifts may take the weight off the guest&#8217;s shoulders, but for cash-strapped guests, it&#8217;s stressful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Home Jar Fund Pays For A House Downpayment<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Jump ahead to 2022, and the real estate market houses have doubled or tripled in price since late November\/December 2021. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Being priced out of the market is heartbreaking for couples or single homeowners. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>House sellers saturated the market, and buyers hit their max to bid the highest if they wanted to win.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Who wins? <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The seller and the real estate agent bank money where a buyer hopes they made the right decision. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unfortunately, newly married couples or anyone who wants to buy a house have to sell their soul. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s disheartening to watch how the war on real estate has quickly saturated the market all over Canada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mind you; it&#8217;s great if you&#8217;re ready for retirement and have somewhere to go. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In our neighbourhood, a home built in 1995 that cost <strong>$135,000<\/strong> will sell for <strong>one million dollars<\/strong> in 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The sheer amount of houses that have gone up for sale and fetching over a million is mind-blowing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When we bought our home, we used only one of our income sources to be on the safe side. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sure enough, something happened, and we lost one income, but we were still doing fine. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Buying a house at today&#8217;s prices requires a hefty downpayment, and two working adults are needed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We thought paying just over $1000 for our mortgage each month was money.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Why is it not scaring other adamant people about buying into over-inflated houses for sale?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Often I hear that <strong>renting costs more than a mortgage <\/strong>which may be accurate based on where you live.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Canadian House Prices Dropping<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>As I predicted, Ontario<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/business\/housing-prices-april-1.6454728?fbclid=IwAR0DetSVzrhyzncpkw4M8O9x8P2KmJ4Ct5OKl9pITsGskeCJDFL49P2GLSA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> house prices dropped 6% in April<\/a><\/strong> for the second time this year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;<strong>Canadian home prices fell&nbsp;six percent to&nbsp;$746,000<\/strong> <strong>in April, as higher interest rates poured cold water on&nbsp;a&nbsp;red-hot real estate market.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Home sales fell 12 percent nationally in April, with the most significant drops seen in big cities like Toronto, the Canadian Real Estate Association said Monday.<\/strong> &#8211; <strong>Source linked above.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Those who bought a house in 2020-2022 with inflated prices are now treading into scary territory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, it might not affect their wallet until mortgage renewal, when interest rates have gone up. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The focus is on paying for petrol and buying groceries for the family. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Be Smart When Buying A Home <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>About two years ago, I wrote a blog post detailing whether a home was the best choice for a buyer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, this has changed because I think some buyers set themselves up for disaster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Home buying is out of reach for many adults who opt to live with their parents as long as possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although, I&#8217;ve found that the real estate buying mindset removes the rental option. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What happens then is they are stuck paying for an overpriced house for the rest of their lives. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Moving in with parents allows Canadians to save at least a <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/canadianbudgetbinder.com\/2012\/03\/15\/canada-mortgage-save-down-payment\/\">20-25% downpayment <\/a><\/strong>for a reasonably priced home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Being <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/canadianbudgetbinder.com\/2014\/07\/14\/why-you-are-house-poor\/\">house poor <\/a><\/strong>is the <strong>last thing<\/strong> anyone wants to go through, so a <strong>home jar fund<\/strong> is ideal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Bridal Shower Invite Cash Only Gift Suggestion<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Last month Mrs. CBB was invited to a bridal shower held in a small banquet hall. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The invite said that gifts were not necessary;
